TUESDAY SPORTS SUMMARIES

The White River High girls played a wild, high-scoring soccer game Tuesday night, escaping Orting with a 9-7 victory over the host Cardinals.

Orting scored in just the third minute of the contest, but the Hornets answered with four goals of the own in a 25-minute span. Doing the honors were Ashley Powell, who found the net twice, Cassidy France and Kinsey Gandel. After the Cardinals made it 4-2, White River received a goal from Amber Inderbitzin and a second from France.

That seemingly healthy 6-2 lead wasn’t enough, however, as Orting answered with the next three goals. The Hornets’ Morgan Brown halted the Orting rally with an unassisted goal in the 55th minute, but Orting immediately answered to make the score 7-6. That was it for the hosts and White River added late goals by Chloe Sharp and Powell to pull away.

The Bonney Lake Panthers opened the 2010 soccer season in fine form, registering a 2-0, nonleague victory Tuesday night over the visiting Fife Trojans.

The Panthers received a first-half goal from Brittany Martin and a second-half tally from Madi Adams. Splitting time in goal to share shutout honors were Rendi Johnson and Madi Lowry.

The Sumner High Spartans slipped past the host Enumclaw Hornets 3-2 Tuesday.

Scoring for the winners were Kkrista Morford, Kaylie Rozell and Nichole Delaney. Emily Meeks had Enumclaw’s two goals.

In prep volleyball action Tuesday night, Bonney Lake defeated Auburn 3-1. Scores were 25-21, 25-28, 25-21, 25-21. Also, Enumclaw downed White River 3-1, with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21.

In boys golf, White River was credited with a forfeit victory over Clover Park. The teams still played, with the Hornets’ Ryne Peterson sharing medalist honors.

In boys golf, Sumner defeated Steilacoom 68-40. Austin Spanjer and Brandon Barlow led the Spartans, each shooting a 2-over par 38 at Linden Golf and Country Club.

In boys golf, Enumclawdefeated Peninsula High School 76-68.

In girls golf, White River fell to Clover Park 25-23, Sumner lost to Steilacoom 58-44 and Enumclaw defeated Peninsula 153-85.
