Veronica Stinnett named to U.S. Track all-academic team

Sacramento State's Veronica Stinnett was named to the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association all-academic team for 2012. Stinnett, who recently completed her sophomore season, was one of 676 female student-athletes from 171 NCAA Div. I institutions to earn the award.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

The Bonney Lake native set personal bests during the year in the indoor and outdoor 800 as well as the outdoor 1500. Her indoor time of 2:14.70 in the 800 ranks seventh in school history while her outdoor mark of 2:08.93 is fifth. Stinnett also jumped to third in the 1500 with a best of 4:26.40.

The kinesiology major also earned academic all-Big Sky honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
