Wednesday sports summaries

Results from Wednesday’s high school sports:

Enumclaw soccer: The Hornets went into overtime before falling 1-0 to the Highline Pirates at Highlline Stadium in Burien. EHS next plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood

Enumclaw baseball: The Hornet baseball team will play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Fields on the South Hill. They will take on North Thurston in a game that was rained out Wednesday.

Enumclaw water polo: It was a rough start for the Enumclaw High girls water polo team Wednesday as they kicked off the state tournament with a 20-4 loss to 2008’s state-title runner-up Gig Harbor.

The tournament continues Friday and Saturday at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

EHS picked up its four points on goals from Lindsay Bowden, Liz Schmidt, Breanna Flaquinti and Kelsey Sonneson. Gig Harbor was led by the eight goals of Aundi Ragan.

Sumner soccer: The Spartans fell to Evergreen High in a shootout at Highline Stadium. That means the SHS crew will be on the road for a 1 p.m. game Saturday at Camas, where they will challenge the No. 1 seed from the Greater St. Helens League.
