The White River High boys opened subdistrict play Wednesday night with a 48-37 victory over the Steilacoom Sentinels.

The game, played at Foster High, saw the Hornets jump to a 10-8 lead after one quarter of play and carry a 24-12 advantage into halftime. The Sentinels attempted to rally in the third period, outscoring White River 15-8, but the Hornets regained their momentum over the final eight minutes to claim the tourney win.

Spencer Swigart paced the White River offense with 13 points and Alex Sayler added 12.

White River entered subdistrict play as the No. 2 seed out of the Suth Puget Sound League 2A. The Hornets and Clover Park tied for the regular-season title, but the Warriors gained the top seed thanks to a favorable coin flip.

The White River boys next play at 6 p.m. Saturday at Lakes High School. They will face either Renton or Sumner; those two squared off Wednesday night, immediately after White River’s victory over Steilacoom.
