The White River Hornets split their final two games of the South Puget Sound League 2A soccer campaign to wind up in fourth place with an 8-6 record.

With that, the Hornets will now sit until May 11 when they play the No. 3 club from the Seamount League, which has not been determined. The game, set for 7:30 p.m. at Foster High School, is the opening round of the subdistrict tournament. It is a loser-out affair. Should the Hornets win on the 11th, they would next play at 11 a.m. May 14 at Franklin Pierce High, against the SPSL 2A’s No. 2 seed.

White River capped the league season with a 4-1 road win Friday at Washington High. Goals by Zach Welch, Zac Morris, Seth Dedge and Ben Angelsino gradually built the Hornet lead, before the Patriots put a late goal on the scoreboard.

The final week had started on a disappointing note as the Hornets hosted Franklin Pierce April 26 and suffered a 4-3 defeat.

After falling behind 3-0 at intermission, White River rallied behind goals by Lucas Dahl and Josh Kirk. The Patriots scored the game-winner in the 60th minute and Kirk added the Hornets’ final goal in the closing minutes.
