The White River High girls were bounced from the state Class 2A basketball tournament Friday afternoon with a 47-42 loss to the Lynden Lions.

The night before, the Hornets had suffered a 59-44 defeat at the hands of the No. 1-ranked Prosser Mustangs.

Both games were played in the Yakima Valley SunDome, the host venue for the Elite Eight round of the state playoffs.

Unlike Thursday’s game, where White River started be giving up the first 15 points, things went well against Lynden. The Hornets ran to a 12-0 lead and stayed ahead until midway through the fourth quarter. A pair of Lion 3-pointers tied the game at 40 with 3 minutes, 30 seconds remaining and proved to be a backbreaker for White River. The Hornets added just a pair of free throws in the final three minutes as the Lions crept away and secured the win.

A full report of White River’s state tournament experience will later be posted online and will appear in the March 9 print edition of The Courier-Herald.
