The White River High girls trekked north Monday to participate in the prestigious King Holiday Hoopfest and headed home on the short end of a 54-42 decision against Kentwood High.
The Hornets were outscored in every quarter by the powerful Kentwood crew, trailing 11-5 after one quarter, 24-17 at intermission and 38-29 after three periods of play.
Megan McKune and Sabra Sproul scored nearly two-thirds of White River’s points, finishing with 16 and 11, respectively.
For Kentwood, 5-1 guard Kylie Huerta scored exactly half her team’s total, finishing with 27.
With the loss, White River dropped to 10-2 overall. In South Puget Sound League 3A play, the Hornets are in first place with a 7-1 record.
Kentwood, the defending Class 4A state champion, improved to 11-3 with the win.
