The White River Hornets split back-to-back baseball games, losing to Yelm Saturday after beating the Sumner Spartans a day earlier.

Friday’s contest game Hornet fans much more to cheer about. White River’s 9-1 victory was highlighted by pitcher Cole Johnson, who went the distance, fanned 10 Sumner batters, scattered five hits and walked just a pair. Offensively, the Hornets were paced by Garrett Robertson and Tanner Williams; each had two hits knocked in two runs.

The split decision left White River 5-2 overall and 3-1 in South Puget Sound League 2A play.

The Hornets are now in a busy stretch where they will play three games in four days. They were slated to host Clover Park Tuesday, travel to Steilacoom today, Wednesday, and then host the Washington Patriots Friday. All are league games.
