WHITE RIVER TENNIS: Hornets move to 4-3 record

It was an easy 5-0 win Friday for White River High’s boys tennis team.

It was an easy 5-0 win Friday for White River High’s boys tennis team. Clover Park forfeited two of its matches and the Hornets won the others, boosting their record to 4-3 overall, 1-1 in South Puget Sound League 3A play.

Steve Root and Cameron Sautner won straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Mike Baron and Dillon Meyers scored a 6-0, 6-1 win. In singles play, Will Whitaker picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory.

The Hornets also earned a 4-1 nonleague win over Timberline Sept. 21.

Chris Thompson, No. 2 singles, won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

The Hornets’ No. 1 doubles team of Root and Sautner won 6-2, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Baron and Meyers won 6-0, 6-3 and the No. 3 team of Tanner Williams and Josh Miller won the first set 6-4, dropped the second 6-2, and rallied for the third to win 6-2.

The Hornets dropped a 3-2 league contest with Franklin Pierce Sept. 23.

At No. 2 singles, Chris Thompson won his first and third sets, 7-5 and 6-1 for his victory. Williams and Miller won 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) and 7-5.

The Hornets were at Lakes Monday, results can be found at www.courierherald.com; the team will host Peninsula today, Wednesday, and travel to Yelm Friday. Match time is 3:30 p.m. both days.
