The White River High fastpitch team may have suffered tough South Puget Sound League 3A losses to Bonney Lake April 7, Sumner, 6-2 on April 8, and Enumclaw, 11-1 Friday, but there were a number of bright spots for the Hornets’ early season.

With a young team, mostly sophomores and juniors, coach Joe Sprouse said his crew is gaining valuable experience this season.

“We are focusing on two things the rest of the way,” Sprouse said. “Number 1, staying positive and working hard and Number 2, turning heads in the second half of the season. We have come along way as a program and the scoreboard does not always show that but my team knows they are getting better and they are excited to finish the year strong.”

The Hornets were scheduled to host Peninsula Tuesday; results were not available at press time, but will be posted at www.courierherald.com. The team will travel to Clover Park today, Wednesday, before returning home Friday to host Auburn Mountainview in a 4 p.m. contest.

Sara Steinmetz was 3-for-9 for the week with a hit in every game. She is leading the team with a .360 batting average.

Brooke Paulson was 4-for-7 on the week with two RBI and is second in team hitting with a .318 average. Steinmetz and Paulson are tied for the team lead in runs batted in and total bases.
