WRESTLING: Kilcup, Fagan top Lady Hornet contenders

“I think both can be state placers at that weight class,” coach Joe Klein said.

Both Hornets, along with Jesslyn Blue who finished fifth at 140 pounds, head to the 2A state tournament Friday in the Tacoma Dome. The Hornets finished seventh out of 44 teams at the regional tournament.

Enumclaw

Logann Erskine pinned Enumclaw High teammate Danielle Cormier for third place in the 160-pound division of the 3A girls regional wrestling tournament Saturday in Shelton. The pair, along with Hornet Jade Paterson who finished third at 171 pounds and possibly Kasandra Renfrow at 152, take off for the state tournament at the Tacoma Dome.

Renfrow shared fifth place at regionals and is expected to wrestle a 9:30 a.m. pigtail match Friday to get into the state bracket.

Hornet Samantha Lanting finished sixth and will serve as an alternate.

The Hornets finished fifth overall out of the 44 teams.

“I saw the state brackets today and we got some really good draws,” coach Jerry Scheidt said. “It’s been a good ride for the last couple weeks.”
