WRHS GOLF: Hornets score pair of victories

White River High’s girls and boys golf teams picked up league victories Sept. 21 over Clover Park, the girls claiming a 34-32 win at Tacoma Country Club, while the boys won 43-15.

White River High’s girls and boys golf teams picked up league victories Sept. 21 over Clover Park, the girls claiming a 34-32 win at Tacoma Country Club, while the boys won 43-15.

Both teams also dropped matches with Sumner Sept. 20.

For the ladies, against the Warriors, Tia Johnson shot 51 with 15 points to lead the Hornets. Drew McCarthy followed at 68 with seven points and Caitlyn Miller shot 65 with five points.

On Sept. 20, McCarthy led the Hornets in a 24-18 loss to Sumner. McCarthy finished at 56 with eight points. Miller shot a 61 for four points and Johnson finished at 66, also for four.

On the boys’ side, Trever Anderson earned medalist honors against Clover Park with a 42-stroke performance for 12 points. He was followed by teammates Ryne Peterson and Trevor Lubking, with matching 45s for nine points, Kohl Kaelin, 46 for seven points, and Tanner Shertsobitoff, also shooting 46 for six points.

In the Hornets 60-37 loss to league-leading Sumner, Anderson was WRHS’s top finisher at 44 for 10 points. Peterson, Zahn Brooks and Kaelin each chipped in seven points.
