WRHS TRACK: Dickson cruises to school record in 800-meter run

During Saturday’s Kent-Meridian Invitational, Marcus Dickson broke a long-standing school record with a time of 1:53.53 in the 800 meters.

Thursday was a banner day for White River High’s track and field athletes, who swept the competition in double-dual action.

The Hornet boys buried Steilacoom 103-38 and Washington High 81-59. The White River girls also were dominant, beating Steilacoom 75-62 and Washington 70-47.

Leading the effort for the Hornet boys was two-event winner Marcus Dickson. He was tops in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 27.41 seconds, and won the 800 meters in a time of 2:08.93.

Other first-place finishers for the Hornet boys were: Anthony Dove, 400 meters, 53.41 seconds; Kody Gould, 3,200 meters, 10:21.94; Blake Maresh, shot put, 41 feet, 7.75 inches; Austin Shirey, pole vault, 12-6; Kalen Green, javelin, 140-5; and the 16,00-meter relay team, 3:33.03.

For the White River girls, both Lauryn Wate and Alysa Aasheim were double winners. Wate captured the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:41.68 and the 800 meters in 2:33.67. Aasheim too the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.07 and won the javelin with a toss of 100-4.

Other event winners for the Hornet girls were: Jade Crawford, 100-meter hurdles, 17.49, and Kelly Coyle, who cleared 8-6 in the pole vault.

During Saturday’s Kent-Meridian Invitational, Dickson broke a long-standing school record with a time of 1:53.53 in the 800 meters.

The Hornet boys placed 11th and the girls were 15th in the 30-team meet.
