WRHS TRACK: Dickson sprints to another 800-meter victory

White River High's Marcus Dickson continued his winning ways April 19, taking top honors in the 800-meter run during the highly-competitive Bill Harris Invitational in Federal Way.

White River High’s Marcus Dickson continued his winning ways April 19, taking top honors in the 800-meter run during the highly-competitive Bill Harris Invitational in Federal Way.

Dickson clocked a time of 2 minutes, .40 seconds to edge Federal Way’s Kyle Willis, who finished in 2:01. He added to an impressive day by finishing second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:35.85.

He was the only winner among the Hornet boys, but the WRHS girls managed a pair of first-place finishes. Lauryn Wate was first across the line in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:19.35 and Kelly Coyle took the pole vault competition, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches. Wate also placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:28.83.

Other White River boys with Top 10 placings were Anthony Dove, second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.01; Austin Shirey, second in the pole vault, 13-6; Devin Liebel, second in the 300-meter hurdles, 41.43; Kody Gould, third in the 1,600 meters, 4:38.51; Blake Maresh, third in the shot put, 44-01; Scott Anderson, sixth in the javelin, 139-09, ninth in the discus, 100-11, and 10th in the shot put, 36-08; James Mower, ninth in the triple jump, 36-01; and Kalen Green, 10th in the javelin, 128-03.

Also, the White River boys foursome of Josh Miller, Dove, Nate Lenhart and Liebel placed second in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:32.59. The quartet of Miller, Mower, Dove and Xavier Russell wound up sixth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 45.99.

Aside from the winning efforts of Wate and Coyle, the Hornet girls had Top 10 finishes by Alysa Aashiem, who placed second in the javelin, 107-09, third in the 300-meter hurdles, 49.83, and ninth in the 100 meters, 13.95; Kennedy Hobert, fifth in the 400 meters, 1:04.95, and seventh in the 200 meters, 29.18; Mikayla Bickel, sixth in the 800 meters, 2:31.57; Jade Crawford, third in the high jump, 4-10; sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, 17.41; Gabrielle Sandsness, sixth in the shot put, 28-01; Megan Miller, eighth in the discus, 84-03; Sierra Gulla, ninth in the discus, 81-03; Johnna Couglin, eighth in the 200 meters, 29.32; and Jessica Tidwell, 10th in both the long jump, 13-08, and triple jump, 27-10.

The girls 4×400 relay team of Hobert, Bickel, Coughlin and Wate finished fifth in 4:29.51. The foursome of Payton Bushaw, Katy Flanigan, Jadison Budnich and Cassidy Kunst was ninth in the 4.200, 2:00.59, and 10th in the 4×100, 56.36.
