The White River High track and field crew might not have finished among the leaders during Saturday’s Kent-Meridian Invitational, but a handful of Hornets certainly made their presence known.

“We had a lot of kids to pretty well,” coach Jerry Scheidt said.

As a team, the White River boys placed 11th and the girls were 13th.

Leading the way was Marcus Dickson, who ran a national-best 800 meter time of 1 minute, 50.89 seconds (see separate story onine).

Also faring well for the Hornet boys were Devin Liebel, who finished third in the 300-meter hurdles, and the fifth-place 4×100 relay crew of Josh Miller, Nick Wells, Xavier Russell and Liebel. Scheidt also pointed out strong performances by Russell in the 100 meters and Wells in the long jump.

Among the White River girls, Kelly Coyle cleared 9 feet, 6 inches to place third in the pole vault, Jade Crawford went 4-10 to finish third in the high jump and Micaela Kilcup was sixth in the shot put. Sprinter Cassidy France set a personal record in the 200 meters.

Hornet athletes are enjoying spring break this week and will return to action April 12 when they host Franklin Pierce and Eatonville in South Puget Sound League 2A action.
