All right, I admit it. I’m a fan of old movies, especially musicals. As 2008 draws to a close and I reflect back on the great things that happened this year in Sumner, Julie Andrews and “The Sound of Music” come to mind. So I thought I’d make a list of “my” 2008 favorite things to share.

• Lake Tapps Elementary will host PlayJude Drama, a Friday afternoon drama program for students 6 to 11 years old, from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. Jan. 9 through Feb. 13. The final performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13. Judy Kurtz will direct the musical, “Three of a Kind” – which adds up to bears. The story involves the hilarious search for Baby Bear while each of the cast members listens carefully to come to his rescue. PlayJude Drama will also present “How Does Your Garden Grow?” Feb. 27 through April 3. The cost to enroll is $60. For information, call 253-569-1112.
Levig named state Player of the Year
At the last minute, White River High sent seven Hornet wrestlers to the Mount Rainier tournament in Des Moines Saturday and placed six in the top four.
Although the Sumner High grapplers didn’t quite get the tournament format they were anticipating, they still fared well at the annual Foss High holiday wrestling tournament Saturday with a fifth-place finish.
White River High wrestling coach Joe Klein couldn’t think of a better way to capitalize on a week of frustration then by finishing a strong second with two champions and a pair of runners-up at the Bothell High tournament Saturday.
The Enumclaw High’s boys basketball squad elevated its overall mark to an untarnished 5-0 when it outscored Eastlake High 22-12 in the fourth stanza of its first-round contest in the Bellevue Community College Christmas Classic Saturday evening.
Gallant Son is back on the track at Golden Gate Fields in Berkley, Calif., preparing for the 2009 racing campaign, which could mean a run for the roses in the Kentucky Derby.
