Manager of Friendship House charged with first-degree theft

The former house manager of the Friendship House in Enumclaw, Jamie M. Casteel, has been charged with one count of first degree theft by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Casteel was arraigned in King County Superior Court Friday, Oct. 1, at the Kent Regional Justice Center and entered a plea of not guilty. A case setting hearing is scheduled for Nov. 16 at the Regional Justice Center. Casteel is being represented by Maple Valley attorney Abraham Ritter.

If you haven’t been to the King County Assessor’s website lately, it might be a good time to check it out. King County Assessor Lloyd Hara came to the Enumclaw Courier-Herald office to discuss the latest innovations available on the website. Hara said his office began working on a new website about this time last year using an outside vendor and the results are now on the site.

Stryker Phd, Gallyn Mitchell set Longacres Mile weekend records | Emerald Downs

It was a weekend of records at Emerald Downs Saturday and Sunday. Stryker Phd won the $200,000 Longacres Mile, Grade 3, for the second consecutive year joining a very small clique of three – Amble In, Trooper Seven and Simply Majestic. Sunday was the 80th running of the Mile, which Joe Gottstein, founder of Longacres, began in 1935.

Randy Fehr named fire chief

King County Fire District 28 took a Mother May I leap forward Aug. 3 when the fire board hired Randy Fehr as its permanent fire chief. The 42-year-old Fehr has been serving as interim chief since April. Fehr requested a personnel evaluation prior to the board meeting. He wanted to know he was doing the job to the commissioners’ satisfaction.

Fires calls keep Plateau crews running on Fourth | Enumclaw and East Pierce Fire and Rescue

Sunny skies, high temperatures and the Fourth of July brought family gatherings, barbecues and a rash of fires. King County Fire District No. 28 Fire Chief Randy Fehr wrote Monday in an email that over the Independence Day weekend district crews were, “dispatched to 13 fires. All of these were fireworks related; 12 of the 13 calls were brush/vegetation fires.”

Senate, House closing in on state budget

The state Legislature appears to have reached an agreement on the two-year operating budget, according to majority floor leader Sen. Joe Fain, 47th District. The race to the budget finish line has taken two special session and the beginning of a third. Gov. Jay Inslee had to sign the bill by midnight Tuesday for the government to continue operating, which is past the press deadline. Check online, www.courierherald.com, for an update.

Enumclaw school bonds pass by just four votes

The Enumclaw School District roller coaster ride is finally over. After two weeks of not passing, passing, not quite and maybe, the King County Elections Canvassing Board certified the proposition as approved with 60.05 percent support, 3,913 votes, a margin of four votes.
