Stage Door brings color to ‘Dreamcoat’ musical

A crash of drums, a flash of light is a good way to begin the upcoming Stage Door Production “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical with lyrics by  Tim Rice.

The story is based on the coat of many colors story of Joseph from the Bible’s book of Genesis. This was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly. Its family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music have resulted in numerous productions of the show.

“It has fun costumes and sets, it has easy comedy that lends itself to joy and frivolity,” said Stephanie Johnson, Stage Door director. “It’s easy to watch, easy to enjoy, easy to love. This a story about redemption. It’s a story about family. This is a story about transformation; about truth but ultimately it’s a story about forgiveness. Things that we all need in our communities.

“The real key to the heart of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is as simple as one of my favorite lyrics, “Any dream will do.” To me this means exactly what it says, this means that the dreams you have are real, they are special, they are wondrous and they can come true.”
