While school districts across the region were failing levy and bond propositions, voters in Carbonado gave their school district the thumbs up on a six-year, $72,000 technology levy.

Results of Tuesday’s mail-only election showed supporters giving the Carbonado Historical School District a 63.11 percent “yes” vote. A levy requires 50 percent plus one vote to pass.

The levy, which is expected to cost taxpayers 11 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, or appoximately $27 a year for the owner of a $300,000 home in the first year of collection, 2010.

This levy is a renewal of a levy that was approved in 1997 and again in 2003.

According to school district officials, during the past six years the district has used technology levy money to upgrade to a Macintosh server and purchase software and provide maintenance for that server; put document cameras and an LCD projector in each classsroom; updated systems in the science room; purchased monitors, keyboards and mice for refurbished computers in the science room; replaced DVD players; and purchased a wireless microphone system and replace many computers.
