DRUGS: Police on Jan. 30 were dispatched to the parking lot near Fleet Feet on state Route 410 for a report of multiple people sleeping in a car. The reporting party was concerned about a propane tank located just outside the car door. When police arrived, they found three people in the vehicle who appeared to be asleep and the propane tank and a torch, as well as a piece of blackened aluminum foil, usually affiliated with drug use. The person in the driver seat had trouble staying awake during contact with the police and his pupils were dilated and speech slurred. The subject said he was homeless and sleeping in his car and said the torch was his and used to heat up noodle soup. The other two passengers also appeared to be under the influence of drugs, though all initially denied using drugs. The driver also gave police a false name. He was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and making false statements to police. A female passenger admitted to police that the trio were smoking methamphetamine and the driver was found to have a glass pipe, usually used for smoking meth, in his pocket. The driver’s true identity was discovered and he was taken to Buckley Jail and booked.
PROWL:Police on Jan. 31 took a report in the lobby of the Public Safety Building regarding a vehicle prowl in thew Walmart parking lot. The victim reported returning to his car from shopping to notice his stereo and subwoofer missing and severe damage to the passenger side door and dashboard. The items are valued at an estimated $500 and the damage is estimated at $800. Police have reviewed surveillance footage and are investigating.
FRAUD: Police on Jan. 31 were dispatched to Target for a fraud in progress. According to store security a subject was at the customer service desk attempting to make a fraudulent return of merchandise. The security officer was investigating a check fraud case from the day before when he noticed on video a subject leave the store with merchandise concealed under his clothing and then return to the store to return the item and receive a gift card. The individual then selected a diaper bag, paid for it with the gift card and went immediately to the customer service desk to return the item and receive cash, since he now had a receipt. The following day, Jan. 31, the subject returned to the store, wearing the same clothing, and selected a box of niccorette. he paid for the item and then again took it directly to the customer service desk and returned it for cash. The employee then called police, who intercepted the subject at his vehicle. The subject eventually admitted the fraud. He was cited for theft and trespassed from the store for two years.
FRAUD: Police on Feb. 1 were dispatched to the Shari’s on state Route 410 for a report of a possible fraud. Upon arrival, police were given a bank check for $40 with the writer’s identification handwritten in the information area. The employee noted the person and address written in do not exist. Police confirmed the name on the check did not match one on the account and are investigating further.
HIT AND RUN: Officers on Feb. 1 responded to Walmart for a report of a hit and run of an unattended vehicle. The victim reported that while she was in the store shopping, a witness saw her vehicle struck by an unknown suspect, causing damage to the driver’s side. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and are investigating.
GAS THEFT: Police on Feb. 2 took a report from a city employee regarding dropping levels of gasoline in city vehicles despite few miles driven since the last fill-up. No leaks were found. The amount of missing gasoline is valued at approximately $155. Police are investigating.
SHOPLIFTING: Officers on Feb. 2 were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a shoplifter in custody. According to store security, the suspect took several items from the ladies’ intimate apparel area, concealed the items and attempted to leave the store without paying. The suspect admitted to security she had attempted to steal the items. She was cited for theft and trespassed from all Walmart stores.
BURGLARY: Police on Feb. 2 responded to the 20600 block of 93rd Street for a report of a burglary. The resident returned home and noticed a back window broken and a game system and a pair of shoes were missing. Police are investigating.
DRUGS: Police in the early morning hours of Feb. 4 were dispatched to the 18000 block of state Route 410 for a report of a criminal trespass in progress. It appeared the that suspect, in addition to trespassing, was preparing to burglarize the business. When police arrived, the suspect admitted to having a meth pipe in his sock. He was also found with tools commonly used to commit burglaries and vehicle prowls. The suspect was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of burglary tools.
BURGLARY: Officers on Feb. 4 were dispatched to the 19400 block of 67th Street East for a report of a burglary. The victim returned home from work to find the door knob to her residence lying on the ground in front of the door and her television and three gaming consoles missing, as well as a laptop, jewelry and a lock box containing two handguns. Police located pry marks around the doors. Police are investigating.
SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND: Police on Feb. 8 were dispatched to the 9500 block of 209th Avenue East for a report of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim reported he was checking his house for a prowler and then was cleaning his pistol when it accidentally discharged, causing injury to his hand. The gin was confiscated for safekeeping as the man was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of his injury.
