Court documents reveal more details about a Aug. 29 rollover accident that left a driver charged with vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault.
Jacob Skylar Allyn Lee, 18, of Enumclaw was arraigned Sept. 2 in Pierce County Superior Court. Bail was set at $100,000 and Lee was taken in custody.
The charges stem from a accident which killed 21-year-old Derrick Colvin-Laiblin of Buckley and injured two other passengers in the 28800 block of Sumner-Buckley Highway East near Buckley.
Court documents state the two surviving passengers identified Lee was the driver of the full-size pickup involved in the crash. Debris was scattered approximately 300 feet on the north side of the road.
The pickup reportedly was traveling eastbound in the opposite lane when the drive lost control and hit several trees. Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies found empty beer containers in the truck and at the scene of the accident, but Lee had no signs of intoxication, court records stated.
The hood of the truck was found 50 feet from the accident scene and investigators noted all four tires were nearly bald and the rear passenger tire was flat.
Lee’s girlfriend told deputies he tried to pass her when a tire blew out. Another witness said he was in front of the pickup when he heard a loud noise and looked back to see the truck rolling. He said he stopped and called 911.
Documents stated a male passenger, who was ejected about 50 feet into a wooded area, told deputies he came out of the woods to find Colvin-Laiblin badly injured and a female passenger inside the vehicle.
The male, who suffered a collapsed lung and broken arm, also told deputies Lee had fixed the back right passenger tire with a bicycle patch the previous day.
The female passenger told deputies during the investigation that the truck was traveling between 60 and 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. She also said all three passengers yelled at Lee to slow down. The female suffered a broken arm and some internal injuries.
Lee was arrested Sept. 1 by Enumclaw police, who informed investigators Lee was cited for having bald tires on his truck.
