Phase two moves ahead in Eastown

The Eastown sewer system extension project will connect to sewer line with a constructed lift station.

Extending Bonney Lake’s sewer system into Eastown is a project as old as the area’s annexation in 2001, said Public Works Director Daniel Grigsby.

The project will be done in two phases, the second of which has been awarded and will begin this week.

Phase one consisted of a contract that extended the sewer line from the current lift station in the Safeway parking lot, understate Route 410 and down 96th Street to 225thAvenue. The first phase is expected to be complete within the next month, Grigsby said.

The second phase contract will connect the sewer line on 96th Street to a newly built sewer lift station. The contract award was set at $780,558.

The city of Bonney Lake has created a utility latecomer agreement with Eastown Sewer Development Association, LLC to fund the project. The agreement includes latecomer fees paid by developers to reimburse the city and Eastown Sewer for their initial investment. Preliminary estimates are$15,389 per acre for each parcel.

The sewer system is currently scheduled to open in April.
