Sept. 11

Burglary, Take Two: An officer responded to a residential burglary report on Vista Drive, at approximately 6 p.m. The brother of the recently deceased homeowner arrived to check on the residence and discovered the back door had been forced open, and a TV was reported missing. This was the home’s second burglary; the first was reported in July. An officer discussed ways to deter future break-ins with the reporting person and advised police would continue security checks throughout the week.

Sept. 12

Warrant Arrests: Police pulled over a vehicle for driving with a defective brake light and expired tabs. The driver pulled into a residential driveway and exited the vehicle. He began walking towards the residence but the officer ordered him not to continue. A records check confirmed the driver had a suspended license and Department of Corrections felony warrant for escape from community custody. He was arrested and transported to SCORE Jail. The vehicle’s passenger was also found to have a misdemeanor arrest warrant and was booked into Puyallup Jail.

Sept. 13

Lost and Found: A Bonney Lake salon notified police that a customer had left behind personal possessions inside a small pouch. The items in the pouch were consistent with methamphetamine, cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Salon staff wasn’t able to determine which customer lost the pouch. The responding officer transferred photos of the items to the server, disposed of the razor blade properly and booked the other materials for destruction.

Counterfeit Money: A state Route 410 retailer reported to police they had received counterfeit money. The unidentified suspect attempted to pay for his purchase with a significantly worn $100 bill. The cashier sought supervisor approval, at which point the suspect claimed he was getting his wallet from his car to obtain other money for payment but never returned to the store. The responding officer confiscated the bill and requested the case be placed in pending status until the suspect can be identified.

Stolen Bike: An officer responded to a stolen bike report from Mountain View Junior High. The bike was secured to a bike rack by chain and lock but the thief either cut the chain or pried the lock off. No suspect information was provided.

Dumpster Diving: A resident of 73rd Street East reported two bags of trash were stolen from her trash cans, presumably in an identity theft effort. The morning before, she went to take her two trash cans to the curb for pickup and realized they were already empty. They had been previously full and upon further investigation, she discovered neither her husband nor neighbors had emptied the cans. The missing bags of garbage contained medical paperwork and prescription containers, she said. The responding officer advised her to contact her physician’s office and she concurred, also stating she would work on getting a surveillance system for home security.

Mail Theft: Officers responded to reports of a man rushing from one community mailbox to another while holding several pieces of mail. A vague description of the man, as well as the vehicle he drove and its license plate number was provided. Officers searched the area but didn’t locate him. No victims reported missing mail but approximately 13 mailboxes were found with open doors. A database search revealed the vehicle’s registered owner had previously been detained by loss prevention at a Puyallup retail store.

Sept. 14

Tire Fire: Officers responded to a possible fire call behind a state Route 410 restaurant. The fire was mostly contained to a tire, which appeared to have been used as a fire pit. An officer doused the flames with a fire extinguisher but it continued to smolder. East Pierce Fire and Rescue arrived to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Officers checked for suspects in the area to no avail.

Sept. 15

Meth and Theft: Shortly before 11 p.m., three officers responded to a suspicious person report on Locust Avenue; he was reported to be walking away from a motorcycle outside a home previously known to harbor stolen vehicles. Officers located the motorcycle and the man was seen through the home’s window. They recognized him from previous encounters, as well as a recent photograph from Auburn Police Department. The man left the home and was approached by two officers on foot and one in a fully marked patrol car. Upon investigation, the motorcycle was indeed discovered to be stolen. Methamphetamines and vehicle theft tools were found among the suspect’s belongings. He was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail.

Sept. 16

Traffic Hazard: A patrol officer observed an unoccupied vehicle on Evergreen Drive East, partially blocking the roadway. Due to a lack of street lights and the location of the vehicle, it was determined to be a traffic hazard. The registered owner was revealed to have an outstanding warrant. The vehicle was locked and the engine was off but a set of keys were left in the ignition. An area check didn’t find anyone in the vicinity, so the vehicle was impounded.

Sept. 17

Warrant Arrest: Officers responded to a complaint from a Bonney Lake church just before noon. An unknown vehicle parked in the church lot and three suspicious subjects exited the vehicle before walking to a nearby house, said church employees. The officers approached the home and advised those inside to remove the vehicle, or the church would privately impound it. As they waited for someone to come outside, officers spotted a man walking down the street. The subject denied a connection to the vehicle but a records search revealed three warrants for arrest. He was handcuffed and transported to Fife City Jail. The vehicle was privately impounded.
