Two injured in Lake Tapps watercraft crash

Numerous witnesses called 911 to report that a personal watercraft carrying two people crashed at a high rate of speed into a dock on the 3000 block of 179th Avenue East on Island 21, an offshoot of Driftwood Point.

The following is from an East Pierce Fire and Rescue press release:

Two people were seriously injured in a personal watercraft crash on Lake Tapps just after 5 p.m. Friday.

Numerous witnesses called 911 to report that a personal watercraft carrying two people crashed at a high rate of speed into a dock on the 3000 block of 179th Avenue East on Island 21, an offshoot of Driftwood Point.

Crews from East Pierce Fire and Rescue, including the marine unit,responded to the scene to find both patients on the ground, nearly 30 feet from the dock, where they had been thrown by the impact of the crash. Both were transported to local trauma centers with potential life-threatening injuries.

Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the cause of the crash.
