White River bridge getting makeover | WSDOT

Overnight commuters will start being affected by altered traffic starting Monday, July 2.

It’s a massive 35,850-square-foot canvas and the State Route 410 White River Bridge in King County is about to get a fresh 640-gallon paint job, starting Monday, July 2.

Washington State Department of Transportation contractor crews from Panther Industrial Painting will preserve this nearly 70 year-old bridge between Enumclaw and Buckley by first removing old paint, rust and corrosion from the steel bridge. Once the old paint is gone, crews will prime and repaint the bridge.

“Corrosion and rust can expose and weaken a steel bridge over time, forcing emergency closures and repairs,” said WSDOT Project Engineer Aleta Borschowa. “It is critical we preserve this bridge to maintain the connection between these two communities.”

Expect overnight travel delays starting Monday, July 2. During the summer-long project, people who travel across the SR 410 White River Bridge should expect:

  • Occasional alternating traffic, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day, Sunday-Thursday and from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.
  • Travelers should expect delays of approximately 30 minutes during alternating traffic.

The $2.8 million project is expected to wrap up by the end of 2018.
