After an inauspicious start to its 2010 South Puget Sound League 3A campaign – a five inning, 17-3 loss to Enumclaw High Thursday – Bonney Lake coach Mike Olson quickly righted the Panther ship and led his team to a 9-6 victory over Peninsula High Friday.

After falling behind 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth, Bonney Lake depended on the solid bat of senior first baseman Brian Davis and three of the eight errors that Peninsula committed in the contest to climb back into the wild affair.

Davis, who went 3-for-5 at the plate, brought in two runs in the top to the sixth to send the encounter into a bonus panel, as neither team could get the upperhand in the regulation seven frames and the score was knotted at 6 going into the eighth inning.

The Panthers came through with three runs in the top of the eighth after Peninsula kicked the ball around the diamond a little more and the Seahawks failed to reply as the Panthers claimed their initial league triumph of the young season.

Bonney Lake’s senior second baseman, Colton Nash, who doubles as a short reliever, had his fastball working as he mowed down Peninsula batters in short order in the extra stanza and earned the win.
