Despite a mysterious midweek 7-0 hiccup defeat to Peninsula, Bonney Lake’s polished fastpitch unit maintained its lofty spot atop the South Puget Sound League 3A standings last week as it improved to 9-1.

The Panthers began the week April 13 invading Enumclaw’s home facility and catching Enumclaw flatfooted and working them over pretty good with a 15-4 pummeling.

The element of surprise featured the Panthers asserting themselves early, jumping out to a 10-4 upper hand after five frames of play. Bonney Lake had 12 hits in the lopsided tilt, but it didn’t help Enumclaw’s cause any that the Hornets stumbled through the meeting with six errors.

Hitting well for Bonney Lake was Sammy Ebner who is lighting up opposing hurlers this season with a .750 slugging percentage. In the outing in Enumclaw, Ebner went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, while Taylor Watkins, who is also rewriting the BLHS softball record books, went went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

After falling to Peninsula, the Panthers took on SPSL 3A cellar dweller Clover Park. The Panthers took out their frustrations on the Warriors Friday, winning 20-2 in five innings.

Freshman Kayla Wells drew the starting assignment on the mound and hurled a one-hit gem.

The Panthers racked up a dozen hits and Wells had two of those as she went 2-for-3 from the dish to aid her own cause. Watkins had the longest and most prestigious poke of the afternoon, belting a long homer.
