EHS BOYS SOCCER: Hornets match up with Bulldogs in opener

When the Enumclaw High soccer team takes the field for the first time this season, a bit of revenge might be in order. The Hornets open the season Saturday by traveling to take on Foster High, the same Bulldog crew that defeated EHS 1-0 during last season’s playoffs.

When the Enumclaw High soccer team takes the field for the first time this season, a bit of revenge might be in order.

The Hornets open the season Saturday by traveling to take on Foster High, the same Bulldog crew that defeated EHS 1-0 during last season’s playoffs.

But veteran coach Skip Ashley, in his sixth year at the Hornet helm, has under things to think about during the days leading up to the season opener. Most important is filling a starting lineup that was decimated by graduation. Only three players – Tyler Terrell, Jay Williams and Nick Russell – are back to claim starting jobs.

A year ago, Ashley was welcoming back 16 seniors.

Despite a lack of varsity playing time from most of his squad, Ashley likes what he has seen so far.

“We have good quality from the freshmen all the way up,” he said, adding that the Hornets will be plenty battle tested by the time league play rolls around. Enumclaw will play six nonleague contests before beginning South Puget Sound League 3A play.
