Jordan Beals shot a 2-over par 38 for medalist honors at Brookdale Golf Course as Enumclaw High topped Franklin Pierce 88-41 Thursday, but the highlight of the match came on the par-3, fifth hole when Hornet senior Jake Erickson teed off with a pitching wedge for a 130-yard drive that hit the pin, went past it about a foot and a half, took a spin and rolled into the cup for a hole in one.

It was Erickson’s first ace.

“I just happened to be there and saw it,” coach Bob Kilmer said. “It was fun. I’ve never seen one. It was great.”

Erickson, Tim Livermore and Tyler Salsbury finished the afternoon one-stroke behind Beals. Colton McCluskey, David Smith and Dylan Kleist finished at 41.

In the Hornets’ 93-5 win over Clover Park Sept. 15, Salsbury closed out the day at 2-under par 33 on the front nine at the Enumclaw Golf Course for medalist honors. Beals was one-stroke behind at 34. Livermore finished at 36. Smith shot 39. Erickson finished at 40 and Kurt Kindsvater ended the day at 43.

On the girls’ side, Kelly Sweeney earned medalist honors in the Hornets 89-29 win over Clover Park Sept. 15 and their 101-36 victory over Franklin Pierce Thursday.

Against Clover Park, the EHS junior finished with a 6-over par 41 on the Hornets’ home course front nine. Teammate Janie Francis carded a 47. Kaylee Salsbury finished at 48. Caitlin Runland and Torey Schreiner each finished at 49 and Claire Hinman finished 54.

In play with the Cardinals, Sweeney finished at 41, two strokes ahead of teammate Schreiner. Runland posted a 45. Francis finished at 47 and Salsbury and Hinman each carded a 49.

The teams, both undefeated at press time, will face White River Thursday in league action. The girls tee off at 3:15 p.m. at home. The boys head to Tapps Island Golf Course for a 2:15 p.m. tee time.
