EHS GYMNASTICS – SECOND PLACE: First year program shows veterans how to win big

The Enumclaw High gymnastics team battled with the state’s best, turned in quality individual performances and finished second in the Class 2A/3A state meet.

The season finale, staged in the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, provided quite an exclamation mark on the season for the first-year Hornet gymnastics program.

Enumclaw finished the state meet trailing champion Kamiakin High by less than one point.

As usual, EHS was paced by Olivia Bannerot, who wound up fifth in the all-around competition with a 36.575 total. She tied for first in the vault with teammate Kelsey Messer, each with 9.525, and finished tied for sixth in the floor exercise, was 10th on bars and tied for 16th on the balance beam.

Enumclaw scored huge in the vault. After Bannerot and Messer tied for the top spot, Sarah Lurry tied for third with a 9.5 and Molly Mattheis tied for sixth at 9.425.

Messer tied for second on beam with a 9.4 and tied for third in the floor exercise, 9.475.

White River High’s Kelly Coyle qualified for three events at the state meet, turning in a best performance in the floor exercise, where she tied for 22nd.
