EHS TRACK: Calvert sprints to victory

The Enumclaw High Hornet track and field program will be well represented Friday and Saturday, as athletes from throughout the region gather for district competition.

The meet, the final stop before the state championships, will be staged at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma. That venue also will host the state meet the following weekend.

During last weekend’s subdistricts, the top seven in each event qualified for this weekend’s district competition. Among the qualifiers were 22 EHS Hornets.

Hornet girls advancing to districts were Hannah Calvert, who won the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 19.74 seconds. Maria Blad was second in both the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.87 and the 300-meter hurdles, 48.04. Hailey Olafson and Sherry Baer tied for second in the pole vault, each clearing 8 feet.

Other EHS girls earning a district berth were Becca Cross, 100 meters, fourth, 13.28; AnnaMarie Forza, triple jump, fifth, 31-07; Chandler Weiman, 800 meters, sixth, 2:25.46; Sierra Carlson, discus, sixth place, 100-09; and Kayla Rodarte, discus, seventh, 98-08.

Also qualifying were the 4×400 relay team of Olivia Bannerot, Cross, Blad and Calvert, second, 4:11.69; the 4×100 relay team of Cross, Angela Lindsey, Bannerot and Blad, seventh, 54.08; and the 4×200 relay team of Cross, Bannerot, Lindsey and Blad, fifth, 1:53.33.

The EHS boys earning a district berth were Larry Calvert, 800 meters, second, 2:04.17; Robby Johnson, fourth in the 200 meters, 23.27, and fifth in the 400 meters, 52.35; Kaeleb Harper, javelin, sixth, 144-03; Cory Johnson, 1,600 meters, seventh, 4:45.77; and Derek Forza, 100 meters, seventh, 11.42.

Relay teams making district were the 4×100 crew of David Brazier, Robby Johnson, Forza and Zack Mason, fourth place, 44.06, and the 4×400 team of Calvert, Robby Johnson, Mauricio Portillo and Casey Smith, third place, 3:36.50.
