The Buckley Fire Department coordinated a large community blood drive with Cascade Regional Blood Services Dec. 19. This was the department’s first community blood drive, which culminated its annual Santa Project.

Lt. Angie Riggsby, with help from fellow firefighters and community members, registered 34 blood donors at the event.

“This was the largest Buckley community blood drive in recent history,” said CRBS’s Megan Johnson.

Pleased with the results, Riggsby said, “Later this year, we fully plan to beat the record of our first attempt.”

In addition to the successful blood drive, members of the Buckley Fire Department coordinated more than 50 volunteers and wrapped gifts for 59 families for their annual Santa Project.

For more than 60 years, Cascade Regional Blood Services has been providing blood products and services to hospitals, clinics and trauma centers in south King and Pierce counties including MultiCare Health System and Franciscan Health System. CRBS is a not-for-profit, volunteer-supported community blood resource.

Anyone wishing to donate can schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-24-BLOOD or visiting www.crbs.net. Blood donations are needed to maintain a consistent blood supply.
