ROBBERY WITH WEAPON

• At 9:53 p.m. Jan. 13, police responded to a robbery in progress at a store on state Route 410. Dispatch advised the suspect was waving a knife near the pharmacy in the store. Backup was called and police approached the business and saw a subject matching the description. The suspect was later identified and is a 34-year-old male. The suspect walked to the front of the store and approached a cashier. The cashier walked away and police entered the business and detained the man. Police questioned the man and suspected he was under the influence of a drug, since he could not keep his balance, had difficulty keeping his eyes open and was beginning to foam at the mouth. The man stated the folding box cutter he held was to open a Valentine present for his wife. A store employee provided a written statement in which she wrote she felt her life was I danger from the man. The suspect was transported to the Pierce County Jail and charged with harassment. He stated he lost his job and his house is being foreclosed on. He stated his stress level is at an all-time high.

INJURY ACCIDENT

• At 11:23 p.m. Jan. 9, police viewed a rollover accident in the 18600 block of SR 410 involving two vehicles. A truck was in a ditch and a second vehicle was parked on the shoulder nearby. Police contacted the driver of the truck, a 45-year-old man, who was conscious but not alert. He appeared to be confused and did not know where he was coming from but he later recalled details. He said he has a history of seizures and seizure medication was located. The other driver, a 51-year-old man, stated the truck attempted to pass on the left and his vehicle was struck in the rear and pushed down the road. Witnesses said the truck struck the end of a barrier and then the other vehicle before rolling into the ditch. The 51-year-old had a license suspended in the third degree and was mailed a citation for the infraction and the other driver was cited for improper lane travel.

WARRANT

• At 11:32 Jan. 13, police observed a pickup traveling west on SR 410 and a computer check of the license plate showed the registered owner, a 32-year-old man, had a suspended license and two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. The vehicle was stopped and a Pierce County warrant was confirmed; the man was arrested for the suspended license and his warrant. The man had marijuana and a marijuana pipe in his possession and was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana.

THREATS

• At 4:28 p.m. Jan. 8, officers were dispatched to a residence on Vista Drive regarding complaints of threats. The reporting party was driving her vehicle and saw two young kids in the roadway near her house. She stated she could not see the kids very well beause it was dark. She said she felt it was unsafe for the kids to be in the road. When she and another motorist at the scene contacted the kids’ father, the man allegedly told them to get off his property and that he was going to get his gun. The man, 55, told police the subject was intoxicated and would not leave his house. He said he told them to leave his property but didn’t threaten to get his gun and that he doesn’t own a firearm. He said only one of the two drivers approached his porch. No crime was committed.

SUMNER

LOUD MUSIC/MARIJUANA

• At 12:37 a.m. Jan 1, an officer responded to the 1500 block of Steele Avenue for a report of loud music being played from a parked vehicle. Upon arrival the officer contacted three subjects in the vehicle. When the officer approached the vehicle he could smell an overpowering odor of burnt marijuana. When the officer asked the group about the odor of marijuana, nobody replied. Another officer who had arrived on scene observed a large piece of drug paraphernalia sitting on the passenger seat. The owner of the vehicle consented to have his vehicle searched by officers and additional drug paraphernalia and marijuana was located. When the evidence was being removed from the vehicle one subject told the officer “don’t break my bong, it is brand new” The subject later asked the officer if he could have his bong back and the officer replied, most likely not. All three subjects were released at the scene and two will be cited through the court.

UNWANTED GUEST

• At approximately 12:28 a.m. Dec. 30 an officer was on routine patrol when he noticed some concrete barriers were moved from their regular location. The property is not being developed at this time and has not been used since the end of summer. Upon investigation, the officer located a truck and trailer on the property. The officer was approached by a male subject from a front-end loader who gave the officer an explanation as to what he was doing on the property. The officer asked if he worked for the owner of the property and he said that he did and that his boss gave him permission to remove items from the property. The officer also asked if he has written permission from the owner and the subject said “No, not with me.” Upon contacting the owner of the property it was discovered that he did not have a foreman by the name provided by the subject, nor did the subject work for him and that he gave nobody permission to be on the property. The subject was later booked into Buckley jail on a variety of charges.

BURGLARY

• At approximately 6:07 p.m. Dec. 23 a resident reported an unwanted person banging on his door in the 900 block of Spinning Avenue. When officers arrived at the location there was nobody outside. Officers knocked at the front door and a man who did not live at the residence answered. He said he came to get his property and now that he had it he was leaving. One officer went to talk to the resident while the other stayed with the unwanted subject. When the officer went to see the resident it was reported that the other subject came into the residents house uninvited, threatened him with a rifle and caused injury to the resident’s hand which was covered in blood. The resident said that gun was pointed at his chest and that he believed the other subject was trying to pull the trigger but the safety was on. The resident said he tried to take the gun away from the other subject and believed that is how his hand got injured. It was determined that the subject used to live at the residence but had moved out a while ago. The subject was booked for burglary/domestic violence and for assault first degree/domestic violence.

STOLEN CHECK

• At approximately 2:01 p.m. Dec. 21, officers responded to the 13600 block of Valley Avenue East for a report of a female passing a stolen check. When officers arrived they found a female walking away and an officer contacted her. After discovering the female was involved she was arrested. The officer picked up the subject’s purse and she said, “You will find my real ID inside.” The officer also found some checks in different people’s names on them and it was later discovered that most of the checks were taken in vehicle prowls. The subject was later booked into Pierce County Jail for identity theft and forgery.
