Former Enumclaw School District Superintendent Tom Poe Sr. died March 14, 2010.
At its regular meeting March 15, the Enumclaw School Board took a few moments to recognize Poe, who served at its helm from the 1960s into the 1980s.
Superintendent Mike Nelson called him a great man and educator.
“He took great pride in the staff he hired,” Nelson said. “He loved kids, and his visibility was incredible.”
Members of the Poe family are establishing a scholarship in his name to be awarded to a graduating senior each year beginning in 2011. They are asking in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Thomas J. Poe Memorial Scholarship, in care of the Enumclaw School District, 2929 McDougall Ave., Enumclaw, 98022.
