State Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn released a written apology following his arrest Sunday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“I am not at liberty to discuss the legal aspects of the case, but I can now share more information,” he wrote in the statement.
According to Dorn, he and his family attended the crab feed at Swiss Sportsman Club Park in Bonney Lake and as members of the club, stayed late in order to assist with cleanup.
“I drank beer during the event, but I thought I was capable of driving home,” he wrote.
A police officer pulled Dorn over in Orting at approximately 1:20 a.m. Sunday for allegedly speeding and having a defective tail light.
According to police records, Dorn failed two field sobriety tests and a breath test revealed his blood alcohol level to be .11, which is above the legal limit of .08.
Dorn wrote in the statement his attorney asked the city of Orting to release all records relating to the incident.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for April 2.
