Published 3:13 pm Monday, April 5, 2010

Not everyone has what it takes to be a police officer, but through the Sumner Citizens Academy residents can experience what it’s like to be among the city’s finest.

The academy begins Thursday with the first class in the eight-session program being taught at Sumner City Hall.

Every week, a class will provide citizens with information about what police officers encounter in their daily lives including patrolling procedures and traffic enforcement on April 15, criminal law on April 29.

Other sessions deal with 911 call handling and bike patrol. Sessions also provide information on narcotics investigations, domestic violence, special weapons and tactics, collision investigations and use of firearms.

A graduation ceremony and dinner are announced later and will conclude the academy.
