Filleau Spartans’ lone representative

Three members of Sumner High’s wrestling squad made the scene at the Region III wrestling tournament and freshman 103-pounder Travis Filleau advances to Friday and Saturday’s state championships at the Tacoma Dome.

Filleau placed fourth at regionals Saturday to earn his state berth.

Other Spartan wrestlers, who just missed qualifying for the state tourney as fifth-place alternates were senior, captains Tyler Hidalgo and Matthew Wilson at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively. Both finished sixth.

Filleau lost his initial match to North Kitsap’s Andrew Posten and had to battle back by beating White River’s Lucus Doll and Port Angeles’ Josh Basden, before relenting in the battle for third place to Clover Park’s Frankie Sandoval, who pinned Filleau at the 2-minute mark.
