Bonney Lake’s wrestling squad wrapped up second place in the South Puget Sound League 3A by improving to 4-1 with a 59-16 conquest over Auburn Mountainview Jan. 25.
It was senior night at the Panther Den and Yodi Lawes got the festivities rolling when she wrestled an exhibition match with a Lady Lion and made short work of her, pinning her challenger early in the second round.
From there the Panthers’ final regular-season league match got under way in earnest when Brandon Cunningham at 106 pounds registered an 18-3 technical fall midway through the third round and Andrew Johnson won by forfeit at 113.
Sophomore 120-pounder Colton Tracy won by pin at the 1:13 mark of the first round and Andrew Cunningham won by forfeit at 126. Caid Caveness and Jordan Magrum notched narrow decisions at 132 and 138 pounds and Bonney Lake had dashed out to a sizable 29-0 lead.
Auburn Mountainview won bouts at 145 and 152 but a pin by Chili Sabin at 160 pounds got the Panthers back on the winning track.
Then came the fan favorite, as 170-pounder Jake Leuders commemorated his 80th prep mat victory showboat style. With 35 seconds having elapsed in the first round, Leuders hoisted his challenger over his shoulder and slammed him to the mat at the 42 second juncture.
Evan Dorsey, 182, won by forfeit and 190-pounder Jordan Schultz and 220-pounder Kasey Board netted impressive pins before Auburn Mountainview managed to win by pin in the 285-pound finale.
Bonney Lake now heads into Friday and Saturday’s SPSL 3A subregional tournament at Auburn Mountainview.
