Washington Healthplanfinder: Still time to enroll in a qualified health plan

Published 4:05 pm Saturday, December 20, 2014

The Washington Health Benefit Exchange is reminding residents today to select and pay for a Qualified Health Plan through www.wahealthplanfinder.org by 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 for coverage that begins on Jan. 1, 2015.

While Dec. 15 was the national deadline to enroll in health insurance, individuals and families who would like to sign up for a Qualified Health Plan can still check out their options and see if they qualify for tax credits to lower the cost of their health coverage. Enrollment in Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) is year-round.

“Residents should take advantage of this additional time to shop and compare the Qualified Health Plans that are available through Washington Healthplanfinder,” said Richard Onizuka, CEO for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. “With twice as many health plans this year, make sure you carefully review all of your options and locate assistance if you need it.”

In anticipation of the expected enrollment surge this weekend, the toll-free Customer Support Center (1-855-923-4633) will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Insurance brokers and navigators are also searchable by zip code on wahealthplanfinder.org, or residents can locate an upcoming Enrollment Event. Customers are encouraged to review planned maintenance schedules and Customer Support Center hours as they begin the application process.

The majority of renewing customers must also return to Washington Healthplanfinder to confirm their coverage by 2015. These customers may sign into their online account, update their information, view their eligibility for 2015 coverage and select a Qualified Health Plan.

“It’s important that both new and renewing customers are aware of the Dec. 23 deadline to sign up for coverage that starts in the New Year,” said Richard Onizuka, CEO for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. “No matter what time of year you signed up for a Qualified Health Plan, you must select and pay for a health plan by the deadline to ensure you don’t have a gap in coverage.”

For those who aren’t seeking coverage that starts on Jan. 1, the open enrollment period extends throughFeb. 15, 2015.

Reminders: Enrollment in Washington Healthplanfinder Business and Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) is year-round. Apple Health customers will receive a notice 60 days before the month they enrolled in or renewed their coverage last year.
