Theft: Officers spoke with the reporting party about her credit card and social security card being stolen. She had been grocery shopping on Dec. 11 and when she got home she realized her purse was missing. After taking her groceries to her car, an employee pushed the cart back to the store and afterward she realized she had left her purse in the cart. She returned to the store and got her purse back but found the items to be missing. At the time of this report, there was no further action taken.

Shoplifting: Officers responded to a state Route 410 store for a shoplifting subject in custody with the store’s loss prevention agent. The agent saw the subject take a CD from a case and then put the empty case back on the shelf. He was then joined by a female subject who was pushing a cart full of baby items and other merchandise. The male subject then pushed the cart out of the store without paying. The agent recovered the 15 stolen items, totaling roughly $267. The agent told officers, the two had been previously trespassed from all stores on Oct. 28, 2011. Officers transported the male subject to the Pierce County Jail and he was booked on burglary in the second degree.

Driving Under the Influence: On a routine patrol, officers observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. After making contact with the driver, they could smell a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle. When asked how much she had drank, the driver told officers “I don’t drink.” She agreed to perform voluntary field sobriety tests but only did two of them. She said she did not want to provide a breath sample. She was then arrested for driving under the influence. Once back at the station, she continued to refuse to provide a breath sample. Officers issued her a criminal citation for both the DUI and an infraction for no proof of insurance. This case was forwarded to the Department of Licensing and to the prosecutor for charging.
