Do you want to build a float? | Sumner Mayor Update

The following is written by Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow:

Word to the wise…if you ever offer to take over storing a float, make sure you check how much extra stuff comes along with it!  Storing Sumner’s community float was getting quite expensive for the Sumner Downtown Association, so we told them we’d store it at the City and coordinate getting it ready for this year’s Daffodil Parade.  We didn’t realize that in addition to the float, we were also getting giant daffodils, a mountain, a carousel, a piano, Santa’s toy bag, a few reindeer, and enough chicken wire to satisfy Colonel Sanders!  I always knew that our Public Works Shops Crews were amazing, but now I know that they literally have moved mountains.

The special thing about Sumner’s Community Float is that it really is the community’s float.  You don’t have to belong to a special club or be a certain age to work on it.  Heck, you don’t even have to live in Sumner!  We’re happy to bring all ages together to get a beautiful float rolling for the parade.  It’s just one of those things that makes Sumner special. We really appreciate Tracy and Theresa, who both work at REI, for coordinating the float.  Because of the move, we’re a bit behind schedule.  They could really use your help.  Please contact Lana Hoover if you’re interested in helping to build and decorate the float, and she’ll get you info on upcoming work parties.  It’s all hands on deck, Sumner!
