Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue battled a brush fire last night that burned more than an acre in Prairie Ridge, south of the City of Bonney Lake.

Firefighters called to the 13200 block of 210th Avenue East at 6:14 p.m. Three fire engines and two brush trucks responded to what East Pierce Assistant Fire Chief James Jaques described as a “wood debris fire” located in a timbered area that has been cleared.

He said that an additional tender carrying water to the fire and a brush truck from Orting Valley Fire and Rescue have been delayed due to locked gates in the area of the blaze. Additional equipment has also been requested from the Department of Natural Resources.

Once firefighters have extinguished the blaze, they will remain on scene throughout the night. “We are concerned about the potential for further fires considering how dry it is,” Jaques says. He reports that no structures are in danger and no one has been injured.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
