Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue transported six people, including two children, to area hospitals following a three-vehicle collision at 162nd Avenue East and Sumner-Tapps Highway East at Lake Tapps. None of the injuries are serious.
According to East Pierce Battalion Chief Jay Adams, two vehicles hit nearly head-on, side-swiping a third, causing it to spin out just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
A total of nine people were involved in the incident. One driver was temporarily trapped, but the firefighters were able to free her without deploying extrication tools, such as the Jaws of Life.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the cause of the crash. The 16200 block of Sumner-Tapps Highway East was blocked in both directions due to the crash and subsequent investigation.
