Costco set to open at end of May

The Bonney Lake Costco is opening earlier than expected.

According to Regional Operations Manager Kevin Green, the opening ceremony will be held at the building at 7:40 a.m. May 30, with the official opening at 8 a.m.

This project has been in the works for at least two years, when Visconsi Companies — partial owners of the WSU Forest where the Costco has been built — presented a preliminary plan to the Bonney Lake City Council in September 2016.

The whole project cost around $30 million, and Visconsi estimated construction would bring in roughly $2.2 million in various fees to Bonney Lake, as well as between $300,000 to $500,000 in annual sales tax revenue and roughly the same for property tax revenue — not an insignificant addition of the city’s revenue streams.

Peter Kahn, the assistant vice president of real estate development at Costco, said this 150,000 square-foot Costco will be “state-of-the-art,” and include dozens of fueling stations, including diesel.
