‘Elk on the Trail’ art installation hosts public ribbon cutting

After three long years, the Enumclaw Garden Club’s Elk on the Trail project will finally be installed on the Foothills Trail.

To celebrate the end of the project, the club is inviting the public to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m., May 19 near the corner of state Route 410 and Warner Avenue.

Twyla Colvin, the garden club’s chairwoman, said the project was able to come together thanks to the generous donations from local individuals and businesses, including Treat’s Heating and Cooling, Helac, Reserve Silica, Arts Alive, and Mutual of Enumclaw, and the Enumclaw Rotary.

The artist from the piece, which resembles a life-size “MetalEarth” model of an elk, were created by Black Diamond artist Michael Gould.

Colvin said the Garden Club decided to focus on elk for the project because Enumclaw is home to at least two herds.

In total, the cost of the art project cost roughly $40,000.
