Enumclaw grad earns $1,000 P.E.O. scholarship

The Enumclaw P.E.O. chapter has awarded its scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year to Isabella Hoyer, a 2021 graduate of Enumclaw High School.

She will attend the University of Washington next fall and plans to major in chemical engineering.

The award, which is based on academic success, involvement in school activities, school leadership and community involvement, is presented each year to a qualifying graduating girl.

Hoyer has been involved in the National Honor Society, Interact Club, Spanish Club and Leadership in her four years at Enumclaw High School. She played on the school soccer team, where she lettered for three years, and lettered every year running track. Hoyer competed in state-level competitions for both sports and made the All-League team for soccer.

Last year, the award was given to Enumclaw grad Maya Rismiller, but no celebration was held due to COVID-19. Rismiller, who graduated in 2020, has now completed her freshman year at Western Washington University.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded in 1869, is an international philanthropic and educational organization that promotes increased educational opportunities for women. There are nearly 6,000 local chapters in the U.S. and Canada, with nearly 250,000 members. The organization has provided more than $304 million in financial assistance to more than 102,000 recipients.
