Many hands make light work.

That’s why groups of volunteers are congregating in Enumclaw and Buckley to help beautify their cities on Sept. 9, before the weather turns.

The 6th annual event aims to honor the world-wide Day of Service on Sept. 11.

Both the Enumclaw and Buckley groups will start the day at 8:30, the former at Enumclaw High School and the latter at the Buckley skate park. The opening ceremonies include a flag raising, a choir performance (by EHS and Glacier Middle School students) and words from the city’s respective mayors.

Then it’s off to the races — er, projects — until noon.

Enumclaw volunteers will be tackling some planting at city hall, sweeping alley streets, cleaning the light poles on Cole Street, cleaning up Holdener Park, Farmers Park, Hope Garden, Plateau Outreach Ministries, and the trailhead on state Route 410.

For kids, there will be rock painting at the high school.

Down in Buckley, volunteers will take on some general cleanup around the city, various landscaping works in local parks, painting projects at the youth center, the stake park, and along SR 410, myriad construction projects and — maybe most exciting — Eagle Scout Aiden Roberts is building a “Gaga Pit” (dodgeball court) at the skate park.

All volunteers are asked to bring their own tools for their various projects, though gloves are provided in a limited quantity.
