Cynthia was born in Brea, California, to Carol Marsh and Paul Layer. Her family moved from Lake Tahoe to Washington in the early 1960s. She started her own family in the late 60s and continued her education in 1973 while raising her children.
In the 1980s, she began various restaurant ventures as an entrepreneur. In the late 90s, she managed the cafeteria at the Air Traffic Control Center in Auburn. With her late husband, Larry Overland, they opened Cynthia’s Pony Express Cafe in Enumclaw in the late 90s.
In the early 2000s, she left the restaurant business to become a manager at Enumclaw Health and Rehabilitation. She was a leading resident of Enumclaw for four decades, assisting many people by providing jobs or helping seniors and their families.
She was married to Larry Overland, whom she met while running the cafeteria in Auburn, they married in 1992 where they blended their two families. She enjoyed spending time with her grand children, gardening, watching birds, and serving mock cocktails at the senior center.
Cynthia is survived by her father, Paul Layer; sisters, Mia Marsh and Rebecca Layer; and children, Deborah Delgado (Eli), Dale Dunks Jr., Jessica Knecht, and Luke Overland. She also has five grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
A party will be held in her honor on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Enumclaw Golf Course Men’s Club
