Letter to the Editor: Column on Christianity, Speaker Johnson was offensive

I am a new subscriber to The Courier-Herald, so perhaps the few weekly issues that I have received thus far are not representative.
But there seems to be a distinctly lefward tilt on the editorial page that I would not have expected for a paper in Enumclaw. I can shrug off foolishness, but I found the editorial in the November 12th editon, “The hypocrisy of ‘Christian’ Rep. Johnson,” by Rich Elfers, to be both vile and foolish. More than 24 column inches of offense, questioning the validity of the Christian faith of the Speaker of the House.
This column suggested Mathew 12:24 to me, where the Pharisees said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”
I think that Mr. Elfers is no more qualified to assess the Christianity of Speaker Johnson than these Pharisees were to assess Jesus. The reality of Speaker Johnson’s faith will be determined by his name being recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life, not by the Democrat Party talking points regurgitated by Mr. Elfers.
Leftists have attacked Speaker Johnson as being “a danger to Democracy” because his Christian faith is so visible. “He is a Christian Nationalist,” they warn. That tactic isn’t working, so now Mr. Elfers has tried to argue the opposite with respect to the faith of Speaker Mike Johnson.
I think Mr. Elfers owes an apology to Speaker Johnson. I expect the Speaker, as a Christian man, would forgive him.
Time will tell, but I hope that the Courier-Herald opinion page will arrest its leftward leanings before the paper falls over.
The leftward bias of many newspapers has diminished their credibility, subscription counts, and financial viability.
