Enumclaw Blue Star Memorial stolen

Enumclaw’s Blue Star memorial was stolen last December, according to the Enumclaw Garden Club.
A local noticed the plaque was missing last month while walking the trail, making the exact date of its disappearance unclear.
The Enumclaw Police Department has confirmed the theft, and will provide the Courier-Herald with a police report later this week.
The memorial, located on the Foothills Trail south of the city, was funded by the EGC in 2009 or 2010; a more exact date of its construction was not immediately provided by the club or found via Courier-Herald records, though a $2,000 grant was given to the club in 2008 for its construction
The highway was designated a Blue Star Highway in 2006 by the National Garden Clubs, Inc.’s previous incarnation — the National Council of State Garden Clubs — as a part of the Blue Star Memorial Highways program.
The program began in 1945 after WWII as a way to give tribute to the armed forces.
The “Blue Star” is derived from Blue Star Service banner, with each star denoting a family member serving in the armed forces during any period of war or hostilities.
It’s similar to a Gold Star Service Banner, which represents a family member having died in a military operation.
This is an ongoing story, and will be updated when more information becomes available.
